Klopp is not thinking about succeeding Nagelsmann as national coach
DFB sports director Rudi Völler recently brought up Jürgen Klopp as a possible future national football coach. Now the 57-year-old success coach reacts to the statements.
Rudi Völler, sports director of the German Football Association (DFB), recently mentioned Klopp as a possible successor to Nagelsmann. The 37-year-old had extended his contract with the DFB before the European Championships last summer until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
“I don’t know what Jürgen would like to do again. But if Julian Nagelsmann decided at some point that he would rather coach a top club in Europe or Germany again – of course, then of course there is no way around Jürgen Klopp “If he wants it then…” Völler said in ZDF’s “Sportstudio”.
“Rudi Völler is a very nice guy”
Klopp said in Berlin that he didn’t want to talk about football because there was nothing to say. “Rudi Völler is a very nice guy. He was put in this situation where he had to talk about it,” said the coach.
Klopp left Liverpool FC in the summer after nine years and is on an indefinite coaching sabbatical. The 57-year-old also did not rule out an end to his career as a coach. Nagelsmann himself had always emphasized that he wanted to work as a club coach again in the future.
Together with 27 other citizens who have stood up for the values of democracy, Klopp was awarded the Federal Order of Merit on the occasion of German Unity Day.
