Maybe they were quite happy with the evangelical church that the network discussed the speed limit and Hubert Aiwanger instead of cases of abuse and renewal. According to a resolution of the synod, church employees should henceforth drive on motorways at a maximum of 100 kilometers per hour. On country roads it should be 80. Although a number of vehicles in this country – mostly trucks and depending on the weight class – are not allowed to go faster anyway, a church sneaking along with Bavaria’s Minister of Economics would not be possible. “#100AufDerAutobahn is nonsense,” Aiwanger recently wrote on Twitter.
Now it is part of the DNA of this very special platform to get rid of content without being asked and always knowing better. But even in the Twitter cosmos, the user can @HubertAiwanger definitely count as a phenomenon. There is hardly a Bavarian politician there who is so argumentative and even funny when he calmly counters insults: “Pleasant, Aiwanger.”
Then again, you think you’ve been taken in by a satirical account that raves about itself in the third person: “Mr. Aiwanger, we need more politicians like you, with brains and pragmatism.” Some attempts to end the conversation with other users were similarly debatable, whether with “Shut the flap, brain on, if available” or simply: “Grunt”.
At least when it came to the speed limit, Aiwanger provided a reason for the nonsense: This increased the risk of risky overtaking maneuvers and rear-end collisions. “The tractor can’t drive 100, but the pastor can.” The Twitter resonance was of course still great, and also from a purely attentional economic point of view, the whole social media thing agrees with the phenomenon. If you search for Hubert Aiwanger and Twitter on Google News, you will get 8160 entries from various media. Many cabinet colleagues have significantly fewer. Local hero Markus Söder alone shows how it could be even better with more than 100,000 hits.
At the weekend, for example, Aiwanger showed a photo of himself and the BR “Sunday regulars” – Söder, on the other hand, took a selfie with FC Bayern star Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on the sidelines of the Superbowl game in Munich. The next time around, it might be a bit more glitz and glamor.
