After having diverted Pringles crisps into a mousseline-style puree, baby milk powder into a special weight gain “recipe”, it is the turn of Ketchup to be curiously diverted into shampoo on TikTok.
If you’re not convinced, TikTokers seem rather excited by the trend, since they are quick to show the results under videos with the hashtags #ketchupongreenhair or #ketchupshampoo. Confident of their moves, they even say that we will “thank them later”.
Ketchup to the rescue of blonde hair
“Yes, you read correctly, ketchup can solve certain problems”, can we read under a video relayed by the hair content account dryze. If tomato condiment seems to be an effective solution, it will only be relevant if you have blonde hair.
In fact, ketchup is used like purple shampoos usually sold to remedy the yellow and gray tones that can appear on light hair.
And to our greatest surprise, the results are there! After testing the ketchup on her green ends, beauty influencer Jennifererica with 4.2 million subscribers shows her results and notes that she obtains a uniform color on her lengths. His “trick” appeals and the video has to date more than 220,000 likes.
“You will thank me later,” she even leaves in the description of her post.
A technique that works
What do hairdressers say? Let it “work”! And it’s a simple question of colorimetry. This is indeed what says Anita Rice, co-founder of the Buller and Rice hair salon in The Guardian : “It works because the red coloring neutralizes the green tones, while the acidity acts as a clarifying agent, helping to improve the purity of the color.”
Professionalism requires, your hairdresser will never use ketchup on your hair during a service. On the other hand, it can absolutely be used at home, assures the expert, to “attenuate the khaki or greenish tones of the hair”, or remedy “the accumulation of ashy tones on over-treated hair”.
To help out, the professional suggests applying the ketchup to dry hair (only on the area to be treated), then leaving it on for 10 to 20 minutes before using your usual shampoo and conditioner (but a real one this time ).
