After the “Echo” was buried in 2018, Germany is now getting a new pop prize. It is to be awarded for the first time in 2022 and, unlike the Echo, is not based on sales figures but on quality. “Now is the time for a prize that honors exclusively artistic achievements, free of commercial aspects,” said Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters, who sponsors the project. “The new award will focus on the musicians and cover a wide range of musical genres.”
