What can be done on this confined Easter weekend?

  • The third confinement, which concerned only 19 departments for two weeks, is extended to France and Corsica from this weekend.
  • But certain tolerances are applied for these few “transition” days.
  • Also, the rules for this third confinement are quite different from the first two.

If Sunday March 28 marked the change of time, Sunday April 4 will mark the change in confinement: from rules located in 19 departments, we will move to national restrictions. This was announced by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on Wednesday evening, in his televised address. But this weekend was, on paper, an extended weekend with the Easter Monday bank holiday. What latitudes do we have for the next few days? Review of details.

Exceed the 10 km zone around his home?

After the 1 kilometer limit during the first two confinements, the rule this time is that of 10 km. Within this limit, and outside the curfew (therefore, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.), you do not need a certificate. Beyond that, you need a “compelling” personal or professional reason and you therefore need a certificate. Fetching children in joint custody is, for example, one of the “compelling reasons”. However, this weekend and the following, we must try to rationalize these trips. The Secretary of State for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari made it clear on Friday morning on Europe 1 : “What we don’t want is to have incessant comings and goings for these reasons for moving children. “

Go and confine yourself elsewhere than at your main home?

It’s possible ! It is in any case tolerated. The circular from the Ministry of the Interior sent to the prefects specifies that this weekend, until the night of Monday to Tuesday, will be a weekend of tolerance for people who want to confine themselves to a second home, in their family or others. The “great transhumances” which now almost traditionally follow the announcements of confinement are often frowned upon or even criticized, yet they can be useful. In very dense regions, such as the Paris region, where the transmission of the virus is easier and the embolism of nearby hospitals, this can help to lower the pressure.

Going for a weekend or even a vacation?

That is not possible. This is not part of the “compelling reasons” that allow you to exceed the 10 km zone. If this seems inconsistent with the “tolerance” of the previous point, you must once again understand that it is a question of avoiding the comings and goings of populations. Clearly, if you are already at the place where you are going to confine yourself, you cannot move from it. Paradoxically, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari recognized this Friday morning that it was “theoretically” possible to travel to Europe. “More and more European countries are imposing restrictions and quarantines. Do you want to go to Italy? You must quarantine at your destination. It is very dissuasive. So in practice, there are very few tourist trips of this type, ”he explained.

Go to a friend’s house?

It’s no. Going to friends’ homes, indoors and most often without a mask, is about the most inadvisable thing to avoid promoting contamination. Whether they live in the 10 km zone or beyond (this is obviously not a “compelling reason”) it is impossible. The idea is also to avoid clandestine parties: the Ministry of the Interior calls moreover, from this weekend to vigilance about these behaviors “particularly irresponsible” which can lead to prosecution. However, as since the start of the health crisis, the police cannot go randomly knocking on someone’s house to check that they are not welcoming anyone for a dinner or an aperitif. The risk is when there is noise during a clandestine party or a denunciation in the neighborhood. Globally, the government appeals to individual responsibility.

Go outside ?

Within the limit of 10 km, it is even rather recommended. This is the particularity of this new confinement. Since we now know that the risks are greater indoors than outdoors, we might as well get some fresh air, where the postilions will quickly become diluted in the air. And even more if the temperatures get warmer. On the other hand, it is forbidden to gather more than six people and the mask is always compulsory everywhere. Main novelty this weekend: we can no longer consume alcohol on public roads. In many places, take-out in bars had created crowds, the government hopes to reduce them with this measure.

Go to a “non-essential” store?

No trip to Ikea this weekend or the following, that’s for sure. On the other hand, the list of so-called “non-essential” businesses has changed since the fall. Thus, bookstores remain open, just like hair salons. Florists, record stores, shoemakers… are also open. You can even go to a car dealership by appointment.

Go on an Easter egg hunt?

Surprisingly, the government has not precisely defined the area of the possible in this matter. If it’s in your garden, on your balcony or even in your living room, that shouldn’t be the problem. Especially since chocolate makers are among the businesses that can remain open.
