A man fell into the Horne river in front of his granddaughter on Friday evening in Werne near Unna and has been missing ever since.

According to the previous investigations, the 59-year-old had an accident while walking and fell into the Horne, which otherwise resembles a stream. According to the police, this has swollen due to the rain of the past few days and is flowing much faster. The man was immediately aborted by the current, and the granddaughter immediately called for help, it said.

Werne: Search measures have so far been unsuccessful

The Unna police and fire brigade announced on Saturday afternoon that extensive search measures were ongoing but had so far been unsuccessful. According to the information, 50 rescue workers, including divers, were on duty.

According to the police and fire brigade, the search operation extends to a length of around one kilometer between the accident site and the Horne estuary in the Lippe. A boat, drones and the DLRG (German Life Saving Society) with current rescuers are also in use.
