Weather: Typical winter flood in northern Bavaria – Bavaria

After heavy rain in the past few days, rivers in northern Bavaria have swollen – but experts do not expect major flooding. “We do not assume that the situation will worsen dramatically,” said a spokesman for the flood intelligence service in Augsburg on Sunday. It is a typical winter flood, which is more common in the northern low mountain ranges. Above all, agricultural areas such as meadows or fields are flooded.

According to the new situation report from Sunday morning, the districts of Lichtenfels, Kronach and Coburg were particularly affected. In Fürth am Berg, the Steinach just barely reached reporting level 3, according to which individual built-up properties or basements can be flooded, as can streets from time to time. The Itz near Schenkenau was just below. According to information from the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, there were also high water levels and light flooding in northern Lower Franconia and Upper Franconia.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the precipitation should decrease in the coming days and turn to snow, especially in the Alps. It could also snow in parts of Franconia at the beginning of the week. According to the forecast, the temperatures will go down throughout Bavaria in the new week. From Wednesday onwards, winter should return in many parts of the country.
