A strong onset of winter with snow and storms turns driving in Bavaria into a toboggan run. Numerous people ended up in the ditch with their vehicles. The police have their hands full.

Heavy snowfall and squalls have led to a number of traffic accidents in Bavaria. As early as Thursday morning, the police from Lower Bavaria reported almost 100 operations. Several trees fell and many people drove their cars into ditches.

Meanwhile, the police from Middle Franconia warned of the ice and asked drivers to be careful. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned of gusts of wind, snowdrifts and heavy snowfall in eastern Bavaria and the Alps for the second day in a row.

In the Alps, 20 to 40 centimeters of fresh snow is expected up to the snow line at around 1000 meters, as well as in the Bavarian Forest up to 800 meters. It is also snowing in other low mountain ranges, but the DWD expects less snow there.
