This week there will be a southerly current over Central Europe for a few days. In some places the temperature values rise above 20 degrees.
An elongated low pressure zone extends from Iceland across western Europe to the northwestern tip of Africa in the middle of the week, as our figure shows. Opposite it is an extensive high that covers the eastern parts of Europe. Between the two weather systems, a southern current that extends to the north of Africa begins. An extremely warm air mass reaches Germany via the Mediterranean and the Alps.
Even if the influence of the high pressure area dominates here at the same time, this does not mean sunshine and warmth for everyone in autumn. The warm air initially spreads primarily into higher air layers. It will not be able to penetrate the ground everywhere. During the relatively long nights, the air in the lower layers cools down significantly and fog or high fog forms in some areas.
The cold and partly moist base layer persists even during the day, especially in some valley areas. It’s warm at the top and cool at the bottom, which means we have an inversion position. Fog and high fog fields are likely to be an issue regionally for a long time, especially on Wednesday. In some places the fog will probably last all day. Away from the foggy areas, the temperature on Wednesday and Thursday often reaches values between 15 and 20 degrees, especially on the northern sides of the low mountain ranges and on the edge of the Alps, with the help of foehn effects, almost 25 degrees can be reached in places.
