In Pakistan, the number of deaths caused by the monsoon continues to rise. The city of Karachi, which has a population of one million, is on high alert.

In Since the start of the monsoon season in July, 215 people have already died in Pakistan. Around half of the fatalities were children, according to the national disaster management agency. The most populous province of Punjab and the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the northwest of the country are the most affected. The Pakistan Meteorological Authority expects further heavy rains across the country in the coming days.

According to a local official, rescue workers in the south of the country had transported people from flooded cities by boat. In the southern city of Karachi, which has a population of one million, authorities are on high alert due to further expected rainfall, according to a local spokesman for the Ministry of Information.

The South Asian country usually experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season from July to September. However, extreme weather events are increasing. Experts blame the climate crisis for this. In the summer of 2022, Pakistan experienced a severe flood disaster that temporarily submerged a third of the country and claimed the lives of 1,700 people.
