After heavy thunderstorms hit large parts of Germany on Tuesday, the danger will decrease overnight. However, there is also the possibility of heavy thunderstorms in some places on Wednesday.

The The risk of severe weather in Germany is decreasing for the time being – but in some areas there may still be heavy rain and thunderstorms this Wednesday. According to the weather service (DWD), there may still be heavy thunderstorms in Rhineland-Palatinate, southern North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and southern Brandenburg overnight into Wednesday. Isolated storms with large hail and heavy gusts of wind have not been ruled out.

On Wednesday, there may still be strong thunderstorms in Lusatia and in the eastern low mountain ranges, the DWD announced. During the course of the day, strong thunderstorms with hail, stormy gusts and heavy rain are also expected in some places from the Palatinate to northern Bavaria and in the western Ore Mountains, and in the late afternoon and evening also along the Alb and in the Alps and the foothills.

On Tuesday, strong thunderstorms with severe weather potential hit large parts of Germany. Regions in a wide strip across the middle from west to east were affected. Later on Tuesday evening, severe weather warnings were still in effect for several regions in Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg. Several fan zones for the European Football Championship were closed as a precaution. In numerous regions, the fire brigade was deployed to clear up damage, for example from fallen trees.
