Weather Alert: Violent thunderstorms from southwest to northeast

Situation

A new stormy salvo sets in this Tuesday evening. After a hot and muggy day with frequently more than 30°C in the southwest, thunderstorms are developing in the south of New Aquitaine. These storms move up towards Limousin in the evening and are locally violent with very heavy showers (hourly intensity of 20 to 40 mm/h in the strongest cells). Also note the risk of significant hail under these storms and strong gusts (> 100 km/h). These storms will then move towards the Centre-Val de Loire and Burgundy then will evacuate on Wednesday morning from the north-east. Other departments are likely to move to orange alert level during the day.

Observation

At 15h, it is heavy in 3/4 of the country with 24 to 30°C generally from the southwest to the northeast. With the high humidity, the humidity reaches 34 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Bougogne and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Evening : storms begin to break out shortly after 6 p.m. from the Pyrenees to Gironde. They become strong quickly with strong electrical activity and heavy rain intensities. The risk of hail is greatest before nightfall from the Pyrenees to Poitou and Limousin. Also be careful of strong wind gusts that can exceed 100 km/h.

Night from Tuesday to Wednesday: storm cells continue their course towards the northeast with sometimes strong electrical activity and heavy showers. The risk of hail decreases at night. At the end of the night these storms evacuate towards Germany.

Other storms are expected on Wednesday morning in the northwest of the country and could be the subject of a new weather alert.
