Wealth tax: Bremen wants to impose higher taxes on heirs and the rich – Economy

The FDP wants to increase the pressure on citizens’ allowance recipients in order to relieve the budget. Bremen’s mayor Bovenschulte calls this “shabby” and calls on the Chancellor to tax the rich more heavily.

Investment backlog, war in Ukraine, social inequality: In view of the diverse tasks and financial challenges facing the public sector, the state of Bremen has spoken out in favor of taxing wealthy citizens and heirs of millions at a significantly higher rate than before. This is the result of a motion for a resolution that the Senate, led by Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD), plans to submit to the Bundesrat this Friday. In it, the Hanseatic city is the first German state to call for the reintroduction of wealth tax, a reform of inheritance tax, a higher tax on high capital gains and a consistent fight against tax evasion.
