“We don’t pay”: Left-wing initiative calls for a payment strike

If a million people take part, the left-wing initiative “We don’t pay” no longer wants to pay the electricity bills. What the group demands from politicians – and what risks a payment strike entails.

“We can’t and don’t want to afford the high electricity prices anymore,” says a young woman who calls herself Marie Bach. She is sitting on a stage in the “Red Salon” on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. A poster hangs in front of her. “We don’t pay,” it says. “Prevent energy poverty.”
