Another dead mountaineer has been rescued on the Watzmann in the Berchtesgaden Alps. A hiker from Munich found a lifeless body on the way to the Watzmann-Mittelspitze last week, the police said on Tuesday. The alarmed emergency doctor could only determine death.
The identification of the dead took a few days because the man had no personal effects with him. Nobody reported him missing either. Only when an Argentine asked the police in Salzburg about a fellow countryman did the authorities get any further: the dead man was a 25-year-old Argentine who had lived in Germany for some time and was on a backpack tour through Europe, said the police.
The investigators assume that he fell from the summit of the Watzmann-Mittelspitze at around 2700 meters over at least 200 meters. The police are still determining the exact cause of the accident.
It is also unclear where the young man’s personal belongings have gone. In August, two people were killed on the Watzmann.
