Water slide: bather shot steeply into the sky – a fake clip?

Watch the video: Water slide as a ski jump – swimmer shoots steeply into the sky.

This video from a water park is currently shocking on social media.

The clip shows a man giving one of the swimmers a boost on a water slide – catapulting him through the air. The man is thrown out of the slide so swollen that he flies straight out of the picture.

The video has been viewed more than 33 million times on Twitter alone. Users worry and comment that the bather could not have survived the incident unscathed.

But what is the clip all about? Is the video really real?

The incredible viral video of the “flying bather” is a fake.

The clip is apparently produced by a Vfx artist with the username Simon and published on Twitter.

There is an older version of the clip on Tiktok, which was posted ten days before the special effects specialist’s video.

In this first version of the video, the bather does not fly through the air – but after he disappears down the slide, he is nowhere to be seen again.

The video makes it clear how easily real videos supplemented with digital effects can lead to spectacular fake clips.

In this way, a lively slide game turns into a dramatic fall into the depths.

How do we check videos for manipulation in the editorial office? It is important to look at the details. The individual frames of a video often reveal whether a video has been edited. We take a close look at each image and enlarge individual sections. Indications of a fake are, for example: lack of motion blur, unnatural shadows or editing errors. The general rule at stern is: Seriousness before speed. We always double-check facts and material thoroughly before publishing them. For this we work with the cross-editorial “Team Verification” together with RTL, NTV, RTL2, Radio NRW.
