The warning strike on the railways announced for Sunday has been averted. According to ARD information, the union and the company agreed on a mandatory comparison on Saturday.

According to its own statements, Deutsche Bahn had previously submitted an urgent application to have the warning strike stopped in court. The labor court in Frankfurt am Main had been negotiating about it since midday and finally submitted the mandatory settlement to the according to information from ARD both the railway and transport union (EVG) and the railways agreed. According to ARD, it is still unclear what this means for rail customers.

50 hour strike averted

The warning strike was to last from 10 p.m. on Sunday to midnight on Tuesday evening. At 50 hours, this warning strike would have been the longest in the current wage dispute. Accordingly, DB long-distance traffic would have been completely discontinued, “local traffic will be severely affected nationwide,” the railway had previously announced.

Train operators: Train passengers should refrain from traveling by train

The warning strike would also have affected the connections of the regional trains erixx, begin, Northwest Railway, cantus, enno and metronome in Lower Saxony because the signal boxes would have been affected. The entire S-Bahn traffic in the HVV with connections to Buxtehude and Stade would have been massively affected. The operators had therefore advised passengers: train passengers should completely avoid journeys from Sunday evening to Tuesday.

The content of the comparison is still unclear

The EVG had justified the walkout with the faltering negotiations. The warning strike is all that remains in the current phase, it said on Friday. The union is demanding twelve percent more wages for the approximately 230,000 employees nationwide, but at least EUR 650 gross more per month – for a period of twelve months. Deutsche Bahn is currently offering inflation compensation and a gradual wage increase of between eight and ten percent. What the present compromise looks like is still unclear.
