Moscow: Adenauer Foundation is an undesirable organization

Many international organizations that criticize Russia’s wartime policies are no longer welcome in Moscow. Now another German institution is affected.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which is close to the CDU, has been declared an undesirable organization in Russia. This is tantamount to a ban. The foundation may have set itself the goal of supporting European unity, but in reality it has an “openly provocative character aimed at worsening relations between Russia and the countries of the West,” the Attorney General’s Office said in Moscow with.
The association distributes materials that discredit Russia’s leadership, politics and legal bodies and represents the position of unfriendly states on Moscow’s war against Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office further announced. The Adenauer Foundation’s information policy aims to promote Russia’s political and economic isolation on the world stage. It also strengthens resistance in the regions of the military special operation – the Kremlin’s official name for the war.
There is repeated criticism that the Russian law on undesirable organizations does not comply with legal principles because it is not clear which actions lead to a classification as undesirable. Since the beginning of the war, Russia has declared numerous institutions to be undesirable organizations, including foundations and the internationally respected German Historical Institute. However, most German non-governmental organizations have long since closed their offices in the country in the wake of Russia’s war of aggression.
