President Zelenskyi has sharply condemned the attack on the Kiev television tower near the Babyn Yar Holocaust memorial: Putin wants to wipe out Ukraine and its history. Selenskyj again asked for more help.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of wanting to wipe out Ukraine, its history and its people. As before, Zelenskyy spoke in a video message during the conflict – one day after the attack on Kyiv and the Babyn Yar Holocaust memorial site there. It is believed that two rockets hit the television tower in the capital in the immediate vicinity of Babyn Yar. According to Ukrainian sources, five people were killed and several injured.

Information on the course of the war, shelling and casualties provided by official bodies of the Russian and Ukrainian conflict parties cannot be directly checked by an independent body in the current situation.

During World War II, German occupying forces and their Ukrainian auxiliaries massacred tens of thousands of Jews in Babyn Yar. “This attack shows that for many people in Russia, our Kyiv is absolutely alien,” said Zelenskyy. “They don’t know anything about Kyiv, about our history. But they all have orders to wipe out our history, our country, and all of us.”

Appeal to Jews around the world

“We all died again from Babyn Yar, although the world has repeatedly promised that this will never happen again,” said the 44-year-old, who himself has Jewish roots. “Don’t you see what is happening? That is why it is very important now that you, millions of Jews around the world, do not remain silent. Because Nazism is born in silence. Shout out that civilians are being murdered, shout out that Ukrainians are being murdered.”

Zelenskyy added that almost 6,000 Russians had been killed in the past six days of the war. Russia cannot win Ukraine with bombs, attacks and missiles. The President called for more international support for his country. The West’s answer is not enough. He also called for support for his country’s bid to join the European Union. “It’s not the time to be neutral.”
