Russian rockets have landed in the Ukrainian capital – one bullet hit a nine-story apartment building. Mayor Klitschko spoke of two injured and several buried people.

The Russian army fired rockets at the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. Several explosions were reported. A bullet hit a nine-story apartment building, Anton Herashchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister, wrote on Telegram. According to the civil defense, at least one person was injured in the house. The rescue work is still ongoing.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported two injured and people still stuck under rubble. “Several explosions in the Shevchenkivskyi district,” he also wrote on Telegram. “Ambulance and paramedics are on site. Rescue and evacuation of residents in two buildings is underway.”

Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko wrote that Russian troops fired a total of 14 rockets at Kyiv and the surrounding area in the morning hours. Air raid alarms went off in Kyiv early in the morning.

Kyiv has rarely been the target of attacks in recent weeks. The city was last shelled in early June.

Rocket attacks on several cities

After successes in the east of the country, Russia may be stepping up its attacks on cities away from the front line. At least three people were killed in a rocket attack on the western Ukrainian city of Sarny yesterday, officials said. According to the Ukrainian news agency Unian, the oblasts of Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv were also attacked.

According to the Ukrainian army, some of the missiles were fired by long-range Tu-22 bombers, said to have first launched in Belarus.

Selenskyj demands modern air defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sees Ukraine in a difficult phase of the war. “We have no sense of how long it will take, how many more hits, losses and efforts it will take before we see victory in sight,” he said in a video message. The rocket attacks confirmed that sanctions against Russia were not enough to help Ukraine. He again called for the delivery of modern air defense systems from NATO countries. These weapons should not be “in storage”.

At the same time, Zelenskyi promised to recapture the cities occupied by Russia. In particular, he referred to Sievjerodonetsk, which had recently been lost. Melitopol and Mariupol have not been forgotten either. “All other cities of Ukraine temporarily occupied will be Ukrainian.”

Bought more anti-tank weapons

Meanwhile, Ukraine appears to be acquiring more weapons in Germany. The government in Kyiv has acquired almost 2,900 RGW 90 portable anti-tank weapons from the Dynamit Nobel Defense (DND) armaments company, reports the “Welt am Sonntag”. The weapons are said to have already been delivered. The delivery of the weapons requires approval from the federal government. The Federal Ministry of Economics did not want to comment on the information on request, the newspaper said.
