Russia has again fired dozens of rockets at civilian targets in Ukraine, and there are again power and water outages. At the same time, Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking Russian military airports.

Russia has once again fired dozens of rockets at civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. The deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office reported on Telegram that several people had died in different parts of the country, including a 22-month-old child.

Ukrainian media reported impacts in the cities of Odessa, Cherkassy and Krywhi Rih, among others. Odessa Waterworks said supplies across the city were out. The electricity supplier Ukrenerho spoke of eight rocket attacks in which plants were hit. There are power outages.

Information on the course of the war, shelling and casualties provided by official bodies of the Russian and Ukrainian conflict parties cannot be directly checked by an independent body in the current situation.

The Ukrainian army was able to shoot down more than 60 of the more than 70 rockets, the government in Kyiv said. Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said 38 missiles were fired from southern Russia and from ships in the Caspian Sea, plus 22 from ships in the Black Sea. In addition, bombers would have launched missiles from the air. Moscow gave other numbers and declared the attacks a complete success: “All 17 named targets were hit.”

Rocket debris found in neighboring country

Neighboring Moldova was also hit again. Debris from a missile fell near the border with Ukraine. “I was informed that the border guards found part of a rocket near Briceni,” Prime Minister Natalia Gavriliţa said, according to local media, but avoided assigning the debris to the rocket. The incident is now being investigated. Rocket debris had already fallen over Moldova in October.

Deaths in explosions at Russian military airports

The Russian army has repeatedly used its long-range bombers to launch missiles at Ukraine. The machines fly in Russian airspace, protected from Ukrainian air defense. Now there have been two explosions at Russian military airports used by the bombers. According to the army, at least three soldiers were killed and four others were injured.

The Ministry of Defense in Moscow accused Ukraine of attacking the airfields: “On the morning of December 5, the Kiev regime tried to attack the military airfields ‘Dyagilyevo’ in the Ryazan region and ‘Engels’ in the Saratov region with reactive drones made by the Soviet Union to disable Russian long-haul aircraft.” However, the long-range bombers were only slightly damaged. Previously, the Ukrainian government had at least hinted at its involvement.

Putin visits Crimean Bridge

Russian state television showed footage of a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the damaged Crimean Bridge on Monday. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Chusnullin, he is seen driving a car across the bridge. He asks questions about the condition of the bridge that leads to the occupied Crimean Peninsula. Putin’s prestige project was badly damaged in an attack in October and partially collapsed.

“We’re driving on the right-hand side,” says Putin in state television footage as he drives across the bridge. “The left side of the bridge is operational as far as I know, but it has yet to be completed,” says the President. “She still suffered a little, we have to bring her into an ideal condition.” Putin also walks across parts of the bridge to inspect sections that are still visibly burned.
