Wapiti deer freed from tires – panorama

Anyone who sits in front of the PC all day knows: Tense neck and shoulder muscles are the scourge of humanity. A typical disease of civilization caused by hours of desk work. But what long-suffering office stallions suffer is nothing compared to what a wapiti deer went through in the US state of Colorado: The animal was out in the wilderness with a heavy tire around its neck for a full two years. What a relief it must have been when rangers removed the monster from which five kilos of rubbish had also accumulated.

How the unusual meeting of Hirsch and Reifen came about is unknown. The rangers suspect that the curious animal – either as a young calf or in winter when the deer shed their antlers – stuck its head in a pile of tires and pulled a specimen over its head in the process. The fact that the stag has a weakness for statement necklaces can be ruled out. It is not so much the play instinct, but rather the hunger that causes wild animals to roam around in gardens looking for food in swings, hammocks or volleyball nets and take them with them.

Unfortunately, the two rangers had to cut off the elk’s antlers during the action in order to be able to remove the tire. This is bad for the rut, but good for the deer neck: After all, the gamekeepers say that he now has to lift a whole 16 kilograms less – a relief that even the best osteopaths can only dream of.
