“Try to make your life.” That was the last sentence Margot Friedländer heard from her mother. She couldn’t hear the sentence from her mother’s mouth, the Gestapo had taken her and her son away. Neighbors gave her her mother’s message in January 1943 when she came home from work to find the family apartment empty. Margot Friedländer still remembers the moment when she heard this sentence. “How should I go about making my living, I had no idea.”
