Volleyball – Herrsching misses a surprise – sport

Herrsching’s volleyball team missed a surprise in the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup against favorites VfB Friedrichshafen. In the Munich Audi Dome, the Upper Bavarians lost against the record cup winner 1:3 (19:25, 20:25, 25:22, 23:25). Herrsching was well into the race up to his own 19:18 lead in the first set, but then had to bow to a series of serves from Slovenian VfB outside attacker Ziga Stern. After winning the third set, hope germinated at Herrsching, but Friedrichshafen deservedly made it into the cup semi-finals. Another favorite had problems – and that against an underclass opponent. The only remaining second division club SV Schwaig defended itself against the power volleys Düren and defied the first division club at 1:3 a set. Schwaig had already turned out to be a fright for favorites in the round of 16 when the Middle Franconia surprisingly threw TSV Haching Munich out of the competition. Giesen are the third club in the semi-finals to be drawn after Berlin Volleys’ quarter-final game against Lüneburg on Thursday.
