Voice of Heilbronn: Newspaper appears restricted after cyber attack – media

Because of a cyber attack, the appears Heilbronner voice on Monday not as a printed edition. However, attempts are currently being made to produce a 24-page e-paper that should be freely accessible on Monday, said editor-in-chief Uwe Ralf Heer on Sunday of the German Press Agency (dpa).

It is still unclear when a printed newspaper will be able to appear again. A number of the voice media group’s systems were encrypted during a cyber attack on Friday night. According to the company, there is a letter of confession that indicates an attempt at blackmail. The perpetrators are believed to be a well-known cyber criminal group.

The IT department and external cyber experts could have created a parallel production landscape within a very short time, says Heer. It was like a “miracle” for him that this was accomplished so quickly. The transfer to print is still not working. But he was in good spirits that there would also be a solution for this in the near future.

The cyber attack also affects other newspapers and companies in the media group

If everything goes as currently planned, employees could continue to work in the new digital working environment in the future. On Saturday it was Heilbronner voice still published as an emergency edition. The website voice.de was still available over the weekend and could be kept up to date. Initially, the employees worked from their private computers at home – but now it is possible to work in the editorial office again, says Heer.

The voice media group includes the Heilbronner voicethe Hohenlohe newspaper and the Kraichgau voice and the companies Pressedruck, Echo and Regio Mail, which the company says are also affected by the cyber attack. German media companies have been repeatedly exposed to cyber attacks in recent years. Some of these had an impact on newspaper production, among other things, that lasted for weeks.
