At his propaganda show last Friday, Vladimir Putin wore a winter down coat from the Italian luxury label Loro Piana for around 1.445 million rubles. Now the head of the company has spoken.

While his people fear severe poverty because of the sanctions imposed on Russia, Vladimir Putin flaunted his penchant for luxury last Friday.

For his confused propaganda speech in Moscow’s Luschniki Stadium, he chose a winter down coat from the Italian luxury label Loro Piana worth 1.445 million rubles – based on the current ruble exchange rate, that’s the equivalent of around 12,150 euros.

Putin’s outfit caused discussions on social networks, and a short time later a Change.org petition was even launched, calling on Loro Piana to distance himself from the Russian dictator.

In the meantime, the head of the company, Pier Luigi Loro Piana, has spoken to the Italian newspaper “Repubblica”. It is “a matter that is a bit embarrassing from a human point of view,” he said, explaining how Loro Piana had positioned itself in the past few weeks. “The group to which Loro Piana belongs has already taken all the measures to distance itself from the human tragedy we are experiencing and to show solidarity with European positions,” he said of the French group LVMH, to which Loro 80 percent owned by Piana.

Company boss speaks out

He doesn’t feel guilty when he sees Vladimir Putin in a label creation. “I believe that the jacket worn by Putin is an acquisition that was made a long time ago,” said the entrepreneur, “but I also believe that this is a minor matter compared to the tragedy of war. As a company, we are in complete solidarity with the Positions of the LVMH group. It’s clear which side we’re on. I don’t feel guilty about the jacket he wore on stage, but I think Putin should think about the bloodbath he inflicted on the Ukrainian people,” he explained.
