Virologist Lutz Gürtler: “Corona is coming to an end with us” – Munich district

Lutz Gürtler, 80, is the discoverer of the HIV subtype O. The virologist received his doctorate from the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen and became an adjunct professor for anthropology and human genetics, microbiology and hygiene at the LMU Munich. He did research in Munich and in various African countries. From 1998 he headed the Institute for Medical Microbiology at the University of Greifswald. In 2008 he returned to the Max von Pettenkofer Institute in Munich as a visiting professor and has lived with his wife in Gräfelfing ever since. He also taught virology and bacteriology at the University of Bangangté in Cameroon. The SZ spoke to him about the current development in Corona.
