Video: Zaporizhia nuclear power plant under fire – “playing with fire”

STORY: According to both sides, the Russian-controlled Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine was shot at again at the weekend. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said on Sunday that explosions had occurred at the site. This is totally unacceptable. According to measurements, no radioactive radiation escaped. However, some buildings, systems and equipment at the facility are said to have been damaged. It was unclear who was responsible for the attacks. Ukraine and Russia again blamed each other. The Ukrainian supplier Energoatom spoke of at least twelve hits on the infrastructure of the power plant. The damaged devices indicated that the attackers had attacked and disabled the very infrastructure needed to restore power generation. Russia, on the other hand, blamed Ukraine for the shelling. A spokesman for Russia’s defense ministry said Ukraine shelled the power lines that feed the power plant. IAEA boss Grossi urgently warned of the risks. “Whoever is behind this has to stop immediately,” he said. “You are playing with fire.”
