STORY: Disturbing event in the Greek capital Athens. A white tiger cub was recently discovered under a garbage can at the local zoo. Authorities suspect the incident could be related to illegal wildlife trade. The zoo director reports: Jean-Jacques Lesueur, founder and operator of the zoo in Athens: “One of the employees in charge of cleaning and garbage told me that under one of the garbage cans at the end of the zoo, in the parking lot, there was a big white cat was lying. That surprised him and he said come with me. So I went there. And to my great surprise this big white cat was a tiger cub. The animal was in bad shape, dirty, scared and it looked thin and dehydrated.” Now the Greek veterinarians are fighting to save the white tiger cub. If the animal should survive, it is planned that it will be relocated to a sanctuary as the zoo has no other animals of this species. International animal welfare organizations have already contacted the zoo to help.
