Volcano on La Palma sets a record

It seething, spewing lava, ash and smoke and simply does not come to rest. In the meantime, the volcano of the Cumbre Vieja mountain range in the south of the Canary Island of La Palma has set a new record: Since the beginning of the recordings, it is the longest eruption that has ever been documented on La Palma. It is now 85 days. So far, the Tehuya eruption has been a local record of 84 days. And that came from the year 1585 – so it lasted for over 400 years. According to official information, the lava flows have already damaged or destroyed at least 2,650 buildings. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and no one can predict exactly how long the outbreak will last.
