Ukraine conflict: “Annalena” and “Tony” want a peaceful solution

Tensions between the West and Russia over the Ukraine crisis are increasing. The foreign ministers of the USA, France, Great Britain and Germany met in Berlin on Thursday to explore a common position. Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized that the only way out of the crisis was through dialogue: “Unfortunately, Russian behavior continues to speak a different language. The worrying activities continue to increase – most recently, for example, through the deployment of troops to Belarus and joint military maneuvers in the border area with Ukraine . We urge Russia to take de-escalation steps. Any further aggressiveness would have serious consequences.” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken addressed the unity and strength of the West in all of its joint international organizations. “All of these engagements are comprehensive and ongoing consultations with all our European partners. More than 100 talks in the past few weeks, including: Ukraine, NATO, the European Union, the OSCE, the Bucharest Nine and various bilateral talks. All of that “to make sure we all speak one language and act together when it comes to Russia. That gives us a strength. A strength that Russia doesn’t have. That’s why we formed alliances in the first place. It’s that.” It is the reason why Russia is ruthlessly trying to divide us. And it is the reason why I can present our common view to Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov tomorrow.” Russia has massed around 100,000 soldiers on the border with Ukraine. Western states have been warning for weeks that an invasion would have serious consequences. The government in Moscow rejects invasion plans.
