Video: Tug-of-war over refugees in Sicily

STORY: “Help us,” cried migrants aboard the Norwegian-flagged rescue ship Geo Barents, which was moored in the port of Catania, Sicily, on Monday. At the weekend, the ship, together with the German-flagged Humanity 1, received permission to dock in Catania and bring about 500 migrants, mainly women and children, ashore. The other people on board should not be admitted. The Italian government had asked the ships to leave Sicily again. The migrants would have to be taken care of by the state under whose flag the rescue ships sail. The captains of the ships have so far refused to leave the port again. Two other NGO boats are still off Sicily with around 300 migrants on board. .
