The military in Sudan wants to reinstate the disempowered head of government

In Sudan there is apparently an agreement on the reinstatement of the head of government Abdalla Hamdok, who was ousted in a military coup around four weeks ago. The military agreed to a corresponding agreement in mediation talks late on Saturday evening, it was said in negotiating circles on Sunday. Hamdok should form an independent cabinet of technocrats and all political prisoners should be released under the agreement between the military and civil parties, the Umma party leader said. The National Sovereignty Council should hold a special session later that day to announce the decision. On Sunday, Hamdok was seen for the first time since the beginning of his house arrest. He said an agreement with the military aims to end the bloodshed in Sudan and not to block the transition to democracy any further. On Saturday, residents of the capital, Khartoum, called for Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to withdraw. He is chairman of the Sovereign Council and thus de facto head of state of Sudan. The military took power on October 25 and placed Prime Minister Hamdok under house arrest.
