Sex crimes: Epstein confidante Maxwell found guilty

The confidante of the late US multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, has been found guilty of sex crimes. The jury of the New Year court ruled that the 60-year-old was responsible for, among other things, trafficking in minors. She is said to have recruited young girls over the years – so that Epstein could sexually abuse the teenagers. In the process, four women had indicated that they had been abused by Epstein in the 1990s and 2000s. Prosecutor Damian Williams said Maxwell knew exactly what she was doing: “… One of the worst crimes imaginable. Aiding and abetting in child sexual abuse. Crimes she shared with her longtime partner and co-conspirator, Jeffrey Epstein committed. ” The jury found Maxwell guilty on five out of six counts. At the trial, her defense had denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty. During the trial, the defendant did not make a statement of her own. The sentence has yet to be determined. Maxwell faces a decade-long prison term. Epstein himself can no longer be condemned. He killed himself in a Manhattan prison cell in 2019.
