Heavy flooding in South India
Continuous rain has led to flooding in the southern Indian state of Kerala. According to the authorities, several people have already been killed and many people have lost their property and goods. Like this trader in Pathanamthitta on Sunday: “The water started to rise and most of our belongings were completely destroyed. We were only able to save a few kinds of vegetables such as the onions. But most of our vegetables were totally destroyed.” The Indian army has been called to the affected areas to participate in the rescue efforts. The state of Kerala was hit by extremely severe floods as early as 2018, when at least 400 people were killed and around 200,000 left the area.
After heavy rains, some areas are flooded.
