Scholz – Germany permanently detaches itself from Russian energy
STORY: Olaf Scholz in London’s Downing Street number 10. On Friday the Chancellor completed his inaugural visit to Great Britain. The talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson focused primarily on the Ukraine crisis and how to deal with Russia’s war of aggression. “It’s absolutely essential that we get fossil fuels from other countries for the transition period and not from Russia. And so we’re trying to be successful here. On the coal and oil issue, we’ve been doing it since December. And we’re continuing to work hard to make that happen .” Scholz added that Russian President Vladimir Putin completely miscalculated his attack on the neighboring country, accusing Putin of jeopardizing his country’s future by launching a war of aggression, saying Western sanctions would have “dramatic costs” for Russia. “He will see that we remain united,” added Scholz, referring to Putin and cohesion in the EU, G7 and NATO.
