Real beauties instead of one-size-fits-all models
The fact that true beauty comes from within is not just a calendar saying for these young Tunisian women – you can literally see it: They move confidently, elegantly and proudly on a catwalk in the capital Tunis. Chin up, the poses are right, the audience is thrilled. Twelve women and young girls, including cancer patients, people with burn injuries, vitiligo or other disabilities, took part in the second edition of the RAC Mahlak fashion show – in German: “You are beautiful”. Backstage there was make-up and looks from a professional hand – just like for models without disabilities. “I had an accident in 2009, with burns. At first I had to struggle with society. It was so exhausting. But I have overcome this condition – and the remarks.” “Often it is my daughter herself who helps me to be patient. We, the parents or the children do not need pity, that destroys us. Treat us like a human being.” For example, instead of interchangeable standard models, real beauties can also be seen on the world’s catwalks.
