Video: Poland wants to apply for Leopard delivery

STORY: The Ukrainian military released these drone images of the fiercely contested city of Bakhmut to the east on Sunday. There, Ukrainian soldiers and, above all, Russian mercenaries from the Wagner troops have been fighting attrition for months. This video circulated on social networks on Monday, in which an apparently Ukrainian soldier on the spot stated that the situation was difficult but stable. Meanwhile, the Polish government has now announced that it will submit an application in Berlin for deliveries of Leopard main battle tanks to Ukraine. At the same time, however, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that his government wanted to send the tanks to the neighboring country regardless of a German decision. SPD leader Lars Klingbeil saw things differently. “There are clear procedures in the federal government when applications are made. And as of yesterday, there was still no application from Poland. I read a lot about the Polish position, I also understand how these positions come about. And I draw that The election campaign that we are currently experiencing in Poland is always a bit off. But there are clear procedures in the federal government on how to deal with such applications. And you should stick to these procedures.” On Sunday evening, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told a French TV station that exports through Poland would not be blocked. However, she did not repeat this comment on Monday before the EU foreign ministers’ meeting, even when asked. The Ukrainian government is pushing for the delivery of western main battle tanks. The debate is currently focused on the German-made Leopard tanks. Not these, but two out of three promised Patriot anti-aircraft missile squadrons were deployed by the Bundeswehr on Monday. Several convoys left Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for Poland.
