Video: Pistorius in Warsaw: We’re not there yet

STORY: German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited three Warsaw memorial sites on Wednesday as part of a visit to the Polish capital. The SPD politician laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at the Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto. He then visited a memorial to former German Chancellor Willy Brandt, who pursued a policy of rapprochement with communist Eastern Europe during the Cold War. However, the dominant topic during the Federal Minister of Defense’s visit was the current war in Ukraine and the further aid that is to be offered. “We have just agreed, my colleague Mariusz (Blaszczak), that we, together with Oleksiy Resnikov, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, will again invite the countries that are to form this coalition of 2A4 and 2A6 tanks to a meeting next week. I am very happy about this signal of a joint invitation, because it is important to document once again that we are not there yet. There is still room for improvement here as far as some countries are concerned.” Pistorius’ visit to Poland followed a trip to Kyiv on Tuesday. There he had announced that, together with Denmark and the Netherlands, funds would be pooled to repair Leopard 1 tanks from industrial stocks. And they should then be delivered to Ukraine in the coming months.
