Five protesters killed in protests in Sudan

Five people were killed in protests against the military coup in Sudan in October. As the Sudanese Medical Association said on Saturday, four people were shot dead in the capital, Khartoum, and in the city of Omdurman. Another was choked on tear gas, said Association with close contacts to the protest movement. A medic said 29 people were injured, some seriously. There are said to have been 39 injured in the ranks of the police. Tens of thousands of people gathered in protests on Saturday to demonstrate for democracy and a government without the involvement of the military. Army chief Fattah al-Burhan announced two days ago that a new government council would be set up to exclude the civilian government, with which the military had shared power since 2019. Protester Ali Mostafa explains his anger: “This country has been ruled by three military men who have not implemented anything since 1956, we are far behind compared to the rest of the world. We want a democratic civil government. Yes, the political parties are bad, and they are just want to consolidate their positions, but we should be patient. A civil democratic government is the only way to move the country forward. ” The military dissolved the government at the end of October and declared a nationwide state of emergency. Army chief Fattah al-Burhan has headed a transitional council. The committee is made up of 14 people. Although there are also civilians among them, representatives of the so-called Forces for Freedom and Change, who had ruled the country together with the military since 2019, are not among them.
