STORY: Images from a Ukrainian military hospital in the Donetsk region in December. Fierce fighting has been raging in the area for weeks. This is the most intense military fighting since the Russian forces invaded in late February. The 35-year-old military doctor, Oleksyj, reports how his working days look like at the moment: “There are days when we have a lot of seriously injured people: four or five amputations at once. On other days there is not a single one for two, three or four hours. Not a day same. Sure, there are difficult moments, especially when Ukraine attack. Then we work five, six or seven hours at a time.” For the 24-year-old intern Olena, the impressions close to the front are difficult to process. “To be honest, when very young men come in, it’s extremely psychologically difficult to deal with.
