Video: Extreme weather in the US state of California

STORY: Small streams turn into raging rivers. Masses of water that cannot be stopped. Thunderstorms and hail hit California. The US state has already been at the mercy of extreme weather conditions for three weeks – floods, landslides and evacuations. According to California Governor Gavin Newsom, at least 14 people died in this connection in the western United States. Roads were closed and schools had to close. Tens of thousands of households are without electricity. Residents in the affected areas have been asked by the authorities to leave their homes. A state of emergency has now been declared by US President Joe Biden so that the authorities can react more quickly and help can arrive more quickly. However, the US weather service warns of further extreme weather events and has alerted residents of San Francisco to the risk of flash floods. Further heavy rainfall is also expected for the coastal regions of central and southern California. Since December 26, the US state of California has been subject to repeated torrential rains. Fresh snow of up to 1.80 meters is currently expected in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. If this melts, new floods could follow.
