Video: EU and USA want to negotiate agreements for scarce raw materials

STORY: The USA and the European Union want to start negotiations immediately on an agreement for scarce raw materials. This was agreed by US President Joe Biden and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday in Washington. The aim should be that scarce raw materials that are extracted or processed in the EU can be taken into account in the context of US subsidies for environmentally friendly vehicles, it said in a joint statement. Von der Leyen said she has agreed with Biden to negotiate incentives for the climate-friendly tech industry. She described the meeting as very good. Both have agreed to work to get scarce raw materials from the EU access to the US market. The USA wants to promote environmentally friendly technologies with the 430 billion US dollar “Inflation Reduction Act”. This multi-billion dollar investment package favors companies that produce in North America. Among other things, it is planned that a growing proportion of scarce raw materials for battery production will come from the USA or from countries with which the USA has free trade agreements.
