Video: Demonstration for a change in agriculture in Berlin

STORY: On Saturday morning, it was the big global stage that awaited Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir. At the international conference of agriculture ministers in Berlin, the Green politician called, among other things, for a stronger German and European commitment to long-term food security in Africa: Cem Özdemir, Federal Minister of Agriculture: “In its Agenda 2030, the global community has undertaken to end hunger by 2030. This promise – if it is not to be just lip service, then the international community must also commit to doing what is necessary to achieve this. The truth is, by 2030 there are just eight harvests left to achieve this goal. So that means the time is of the essence.” Later, it was more national interests that awaited the minister. Activists from the alliance “We’ve had enough” gathered in the center of Berlin to hand over a protest note. Among other things, they called for fair producer prices and social benefits that make ecological consumption possible, as well as more arable land for the cultivation of human food instead of fodder. And the national manager of the working group for rural agriculture also spoke up: Georg Janßen, national manager of the AbL eV: “We want a sign from this minister that he is actively fighting against farm deaths and creating the necessary economic framework conditions so that small and medium-sized farms can have a have a livelihood.” On the occasion of the Green Week in Berlin, the alliance “We’re fed up” demonstrated on Saturday in the government district. According to the police, around 1,000 participants were on site. 10,000 people were registered. The alliance consists of several organizations and demands, among other things, rural agriculture, species-appropriate animal husbandry, consistent climate protection and GMO-free food.
