Indigenous Bolivian women, known as cholitas, took part in a cycling race in El Alto on Saturday, defying gender stereotypes that limit them to domestic work. Instead of expensive jerseys or special shoes, the female cyclists wore their wide, colorful polleras – skirts traditionally worn by cholitas.
