STORY: 31-year-old French pro surfer Justine DuPont may have set a new record with this ride far off the California coast recently. Experts suspect that the size of the wave they conquered was above the previous mark of 22.4 meters. Mission participants reported that the breakers were between 15 and 30 meters high that day. The Brazilian professional Lucas “Chumbo” Chianca, among others, achieved other spectacular rides. The wave size of the rides is now determined more precisely using the video and photo recordings. The surf spot where the sporting feats were filmed is a reef in the middle of the Pacific Ocean called Cortes Bank. It is about 180 kilometers off the coast of San Diego and is world-renowned as a big wave location.
