Video: Berlinale: Spielberg honored for life’s work

STORY: He got the film fans on the red carpet at the Berlinale going on Tuesday evening. Steven Spielberg had come to Berlin. The Hollywood director was honored for his life’s work at the Berlin Film Festival. The 76-year-old filmmaker took his time signing autographs, fooling around with fans and posing for photographers. Spielberg has directed some of the most successful and popular films in cinema history. Including “Jaws”, “ET – the Extra-Terrestrial”, “Indiana Jones”, “Jurassic Park”, and “Schindler’s List”. But what is his secret of success? “There are a lot of kids who come to my office and I meet a lot of young filmmakers, especially in film schools. And I tell them all to watch films. Study old films, study current films, but also write. It is very, very important that directors can also write or at least team up with writers because it’s about the story, how you convey the story, everyone has a different style and you have to refine your style too. But figuring out what you want to say, that’s the most important thing. If you have something to say, then through the film you find people who will listen.” Spielberg’s new film “The Fabelmans” was shown at the Berlinale. The autobiographical story tells of the childhood and youth of a son of Jewish parents in the USA in the 1950s and his beginnings as a filmmaker.
