Video: Berlin: 29-euro ticket can be bought

STORY: Not without pride, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey and Transport Senator Bettina Jarrasch held up a large 29-euro ticket in front of the journalists on Tuesday. The discounted transition ticket for public transport in Berlin can now be bought in the capital. For 29 euros each, you can use the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram, regional train and bus within the Berlin city limits. The Berlin Senate wants to use this to bridge the time until a nationwide decision is made on a connection solution for the nine-euro ticket. However, you cannot buy the ticket directly from the machine. Instead, a subscription is required that can be canceled at the end of the year. There had been criticism of this rule. Giffey said: “We have checked what is technically possible. And we have to take into account that the 9-euro ticket was financed by the federal government and had certain requirements. We can only implement it legally and organizationally if we have a subscription do it. That was the path that made it possible. And that’s why we took it.” For everyone who already has a subscription for the AB tariff zone, the price reduction to 29 euros will automatically take place via credit or billing, according to the traffic administration. A cross-state offer with Brandenburg did not come about.
