STORY: Authorities in Ukraine have started examining bodies from a mass grave near the city of Izyum in the northeast of the country. Several hundred bodies were discovered in a wooded area after the area was recaptured by Ukrainian forces. The governor of the Kharkiv region Oleh Synehubov: “There are many children among the dead, corpses with their hands tied behind their backs. All facts are examined and legally classified. However, all of this can only serve as proof that the world must recognize: this is a genocide against the Ukrainian people.” Earlier, Ukrainian officials said most of the dead were civilians. The excavations of the bodies and the investigations initially continued. According to the authorities, around 200 makeshift wooden crosses have been discovered in the forest area so far – how many dead are underneath is completely open.
