At least one dead after a ship collision in the Baltic Sea

At least one crew member from Denmark was killed in the collision of two cargo ships in the Baltic Sea. A second member is still missing between the Danish island of Bornholm and the southern Swedish coastal city of Ystad, the Swedish authorities announced on Monday. The state’s public prosecutor’s office announced investigations into suspected gross negligence and drunkenness in shipping. With water temperatures between four and six degrees, Sweden and Denmark initiated a rescue operation with nine ships and a helicopter. The “Karin Hoej” collided with the 90-meter-long freighter “Scot Carrier” registered in Great Britain early on Monday in foggy conditions. The British ship is said to be maneuverable and the crew out of danger. According to the message of the “Karin Hoej”, the ship had no cargo on board. According to previous knowledge, both ships were heading in the same direction when the collision occurred.
